A PONTYPOOL man appeared in court charged with the murder of the 23-year-old woman whose body was found wrapped in a carpet last week.
Daryl Terrence Smith, 40, of Bellevue Close, Trevethin, spoke only to confirm his name, age and address at Caerphilly Magistrates' Court.
Smith, who wore a fluorescent yellow T-shirt in court and had tattoos on his forearms, was remanded in custody by magistrates and will appear in Newport crown court on Thursday, August 27 for a preliminary hearing.
Bobbie Stokoe’s body was found in undergrowth by two local men on an area of wasteland known as the Dumpty in Trevethin at 10.10am last Wednesday. An investigation was launched into the actions Gwent Police took prior to the discovery of Ms Stokoe’s body.
The force received a telephone call on Tuesday, August 18 expressing concern for Ms Stokoe’s welfare and three similar phone calls followed. The Independent Police Complaints Commission is now looking into the way police responded to those calls.
IPCC Commissioner for Wales Tom Davies said: “An IPCC senior investigator has completed an assessment and we have decided that an independent investigation should be carried out to examine the actions taken by Gwent Police in response to calls expressing concern at Bobbie’s safety.
“The police investigation will take primacy at this stage and I would like to assure Bobbie’s family and the public that the IPCC will ensure that its investigation will not impede the police criminal investigation.” (please take time to read this)
two years
Its two years in a week or so i think.. I never knew Bobbie very well but will never forget her kind smile and holding my hand one day. she had an enormous heart that shone through, and even though I felt she was troubled.. I knwo her soul was special. I was so sad and the news of her death shook me..I hope she is at peace, god bless you Bobbie xx
